What is the function of brake shoes

2023-11-23

Hello everyone, today I will share with you the functions and related knowledge of brake shoes. Firstly, the brake shoe is one of the key safety components in the automotive braking system, installed on the brake drum and used to suppress the brake drum through the action of the brake cam or push rod. The shape of the brake shoe is like a half moon. When the brake is applied, the brake shoe is stretched out under the action of the brake wheel cylinder, rubbing against the inner wall of the brake drum to slow down or stop.

The brake disc is also an important component in the braking system, in short, it is a rotating disc. When the brake is applied, the brake caliper clamps the brake disc to generate braking force, thereby achieving deceleration or parking. Compared to drum brakes, brake discs not only have good braking performance but are also easy to maintain.

The types of brakes include disc brakes, drum brakes, and air brakes. At present, many vehicles use front and rear disc brakes because they have good heat dissipation performance and are not prone to thermal decay during high-speed braking, resulting in good high-speed braking performance. When cold braking at low speeds, the drum brake is better than the disc brake. Due to the higher price of disc brakes compared to drum brakes, many mid to high-end sedans use full disc brakes, while ordinary sedans use front disc and rear drum configurations. For low-speed heavy-duty vehicles such as trucks and buses that require significant braking force, drum brakes are still used.
